A few years ago I fell in love with a bed made by the Florence, Italy company Alivar. It is the Boss Bed model, designed by Bruno Rainaldi. Only a couple of problems - Alivar had no Canadian distributors at the time, and even if they did, I could not afford it since it cost north of $20,000 U.S., with the leather and size I wanted, plus shipping and customs and duties from Italy!
Only other option was to find a carpenter, bedmaker and steel smiths in Toronto to make me the exact bed. Fortunately, they all existed north of Toronto, in the suburb of Vaughan. The 3 worked together and after almost a year, the bed was delivered at the cost of around $10,000 Canadian, with high end leather and better metal for the floating base.
I love the bed but it is much too big for my present condo (as you can probably tell from the first pic). Time to downsize. I am listing this great bed for only $3,900 - a fraction of the $30,000 you would pay for the real thing.
Can also throw in the mattress for free if you want it - it cost me $1,800 and is about 3 years old.
The first two pics are from the Alivar website. They're better photographers! Pics 3 and 4 are my actual bed.
The Italydesign website says the following about the bed: "An absolute classic, the upholstered Boss bed will always be in fashion, with it's distinctive buttoned headboard & floating metal frame."
